Pilates is an exercise method developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s that aims to work on the connection between mind and body as a unit in order to improve body awareness and thereby promote other benefits. Most exercises are performed with the person lying down. It is now a recognized technique for treating and preventing spinal problems.
