The first form of currency in recorded history was something called aĀ ā€œrai stone.ā€Ā It was a giant piece of a rock. The bigger your rock,Ā the more money you had.Ā Itā€™s antiquated, but itā€™s basically the same today except itā€™s little pieces of metal instead of rocks.Ā Weā€™re growing up.Ā 

As the world matured, financial systems were built and installed to createĀ ā€œassets.ā€Ā Assets are things that have a monetary backstop (even though theyĀ arenā€™tĀ actual money).Ā

Have you ever heard of Facebook? Instagram. TikTok. YouTube. These brands barter in the exchange ofĀ human attentionĀ and are worthĀ billionsĀ of dollars. The algorithms are programmed differently, but the gist remains the same: ā€œhow do we get people toĀ pay attentionĀ so that we become more valuable?ā€Ā 

The job of the modern business owner is changing. To the extent that you can find new and creative ways to leverage this slipstream ofĀ attentionĀ ā€“ you will be successful. If you cannot get attention, you can solve world hunger and nobody will care (because theyā€™ll never know).
