This is a typical BWRT, and therefore unique, approach to the major problem of eating disorders – it is designed to address Anorexia Nervosa, Bulimia Nervosa, Binge Eating Disorder and Obesity. All recorded for later viewing or reviewing.
Eating disorders are notoriously difficult to work with and there is a sound reason for this. Feeding is one of the fundamental needs for survival and since the pattern the individual has adopted – for whatever reason or set of circumstances – has led so far to survival, the reptilian complex will vigorously resist any change.
It is fairly well established that much, maybe most, of the time, eating disorders have little or nothing to do with food.
The BWRT Eating Disorders Programme is a complete resource in itself and lays out every step of the therapy stage by stage with detailed instructions for each part of it. A comprehensive questionnaire threads through the work like a backbone so you can start working straight away instead of having ask all the questions at one time.
Much of the course material works in a covert fashion thereby bypassing the resistance associated with this area of work. This is essential if we are to quickly get past the major blocks that are characterstic of this presenting difficulty.
Although the programme uses several of the ‘standard’ BWRT protocols (and advises which, when and why) there are also several dedicated specific resources:
It has not been necessary in any previous BWRT course to reference the role of the hippocampus in memory formation but some recent discoveries are of particular interest when it comes to eating disorders.
For instance, it has been discovered there is effectively two-way traffic between the cerebellum and hippocampus so that the cerebellum can influence activity in the hippocampus and vice versa.
Perhaps even more importantly, it has been established that every eating disorder has its roots in neural transmission in brain regions including the hypothalamus and limbic system – and at least as important is the fact that some research has shown that the brains of those with anorexia or bulimia can override the urge to eat.
The research showed that where there is no eating disorder, the brain regions associated with eating were activated by the hypothalamus, whereas when there is an eating disorder the neural paths to the hypothalamus were considerably weaker and the direction of information was reversed.
This means that the data actually flow in the opposite direction!
Starting with the specific questions for the Initial Consultation, through necessary enlightenment and education, five detailed stages accessing different elements of the client’s psyche and the comprehensive questionnaire, this course guides you through every step of the programme.
Suitable for all registered practitioners from Level 1 up, this course is designed specifically for use with four major eatng problems/disorders. It is a complete programme that takes you from initial cosultation onwards with clear instructions throughout.
