This is for the person reading it.
It’s Vinh This is what I’m doing. I’m sitting at my computer on Sunday afternoon while sipping my black coffee. It’s bitter but I love it. While I try to write website copy, which I am horrible at, it’s a great feeling. To tell you more about this course, I’m trying to figure out what to write in the introduction section. All I can think of is that I should start by writing about the greatness of this course and your great teaching skills. Part of me wants to say, “GROSS VINH.” START AGAIN, AND REMOVE ALL THAT YOUR PRESENTATIONS CONTAIN. You are welcome to my mind.
Let’s get started…
Either a friend recommended it to you, or you found it online. You’re here because communication and presentation skills have been something that you’ve always wanted to improve. It’s something that you feel has been limiting your personal and professional life. This is how I feel.
Growing up in Asia has been both challenging and rewarding. Each cultural upbringing has its own pros and disadvantages. The lack of communication, affection and expressiveness in the family is one of the biggest con’s of Asian culture. While this may not apply to all Asian families, it certainly applies to my family. It was difficult for my environment to communicate with me and I lost my affection. I didn’t know how to communicate. Communication skills are not taught. It’s not in High School, it’s never taught at University, and it’s certainly not in our professional lives. It is a skill that we can learn on our own. It’s also interesting that, even though it is not something we are taught in school, this skill is expected to be a part of our professional lives.
I don’t blame my culture. I don’t blame my parents. I don’t blame the school system. I can’t blame anyone else for my lackluster ability. I have all the power. 2011 was the year I took control and decided to make this my life. I’m not going to let my poor communication skills hold me back any longer. I knew I had value to share with the world but the world wasn’t aware of what that value was.
*️⃣ Here’s the punchline to my story: the world wasn’t blind, I was invisible. Learning how to communicate effectively can help you see.
To learn how to use my vocal chords properly, I started taking vocal lessons. To improve my body, I started taking theatre classes. These were not things that I did to become an actor or singer. This is me in 2011, when I began my journey to improve my communication skills. I can only bare to show you 20 seconds of this *CRINGE*
This was me seven year ago. This was achieved after only one year of hard work. It was amazing how difficult it was for me to improve my communication skills. It is not something I was born with. I had to build my foundations from scratch. What can we do about changing the way we talk? Yes. They can. I’m proof. My proof is not the only one. You’ll see amazing communication from my students by just making minor adjustments. It’s amazing to see how even the smallest of changes can change your perceptions. Here’s a great example.
Brittany is simply amazing. After slowing down her speech, it completely transformed her delivery. This is what teachers love! It’s not about making huge changes to the way we communicate, but it is about small tweaks! This video is only one of many you’ll find in the course. I hope it inspires and motivates you to take action.
This online course was inspired by my Stage Workshop. I created an online version of my class because many people wanted to take it but were unable to due to geographic limitations. The online course can be taken and you will feel inspired to attend one of my workshops. I will make sure my team and I deduct the cost for this online course from your workshop ticket tickets.
Below is the course layout. It’s divided into four chapters. I am a magician, so I have used the suits to label each section. It is very satisfying to see the course divided into four chapters.
